Dance FUNdamentals Program Outline

The Dance FUNdamentals course rotates through a schedule of nine dances (three dances each month). This method allows you, the dance student, to first learn several basic steps in each dance. You will quickly become comfortable with the basics of partner dancing.

In just three months, you will learn the basic steps to nine different dances! During this time, you can start attending dance parties. After all, the purpose of learning to dance is so you can have a wonderful time dancing! Within two to three months, you will be familiar with most of the music played at a dance, and you’ll be able to participate comfortably. (In other words, there will be few songs played where you choose to sit out because you haven’t learned any steps yet.)

After three months of classes, the rotation of dances repeats itself. If you learned Swing – Mambo – Foxtrot in your first month, you’ll revisit those same dances in the fourth month. You’ll review the basic steps and learn a new sequence of Beginner level figures for each dance. We recommend that you follow this course for at least nine months, which will take you through Beginner levels 1, 2, and 3. At that time, you may want to take the Beginner level courses over again. (This is a common practice; you’ll find that you learn more quickly and retain the information better the second time around.) Or, you may want to challenge yourself with an Intermediate level course.

If you have any questions or concerns, please discuss them with Andrew or Michelle. We welcome your input. We hope to see you in class again soon!
